Web writing and editing
Writing and editing for the web are very different from print and other communication channels.
Onscreen you need to apply new skills and techniques to attract and retain your readers, get your message across effectively and achieve your objectives.
This introductory workshop will highlight some of the latest techniques and well-proven approaches for improving web writing, readability and usability. It is relevant for websites, intranets and extranets.
You will learn to:
- identify how people read and interact on the web
- compare onscreen content for structure, style and effect
- apply different tactics for web content
- write strong headings, summaries and hyperlinks
- plan and order information to suit your target audience
- put every word to work
We will also look at:
- web trends, developments and eyetracking
- judging the right amount of text to present on a screen
- coordinating text and images
- making a page inviting to read
- usability and accessibility issues
- standards and editorial checklists
