Global communication
If your website or intranet is targeted at audiences in different
parts of the world, you will need to pay even closer attention to its content.
At best, global audiences may find your site difficult to understand. At worse, they will interpret your text and illustrations differently. Without meaning to, you could easily offend or alienate them.
The three main aspects to consider are
- use of language
- different cultural values
- the danger of your site seeming parochial
One or other may cause problems, even if the text is translated.
If your site is only in English, you will need to ensure that it is easily understood by people to whom English
is a foreign or second language.
You must look carefully at the structure of every paragraph, sentence, phrase and word.
To ensure you've got this right, DRCC can offer you the services of associates who specialise in linguistics and English as a foreign language.
Your site might also be off-putting or even offensive in choice of colour,
images or style. Perhaps it is so centric to your own country and culture that other nationalities feel excluded.
We have associates who can assess or test out your material on specific local
audiences.
Don't take a chance on this. Ask us to help.
