Global communication

Narrow any boundaries

If your website or intranet is targeted at audiences in different parts of the world, you will need to pay even closer attention to your content.

At best, global audiences may find your site difficult to understand. At worse, they will interpret your text and illustrations differently. Without meaning to, you could easily offend or alienate them.

The three main aspects to consider are

  • use of language
  • different cultural values
  • the danger of your site seeming parochial and irrelevant to people from other countries

One or other may cause problems, even if the text is translated.

Global English

If your site is only in English, you will need to ensure it’s easily understood by people who use English as a foreign or second language.

You must look carefully at the structure of every paragraph, sentence, phrase and word.

To ensure you've got this right, DRCC can offer you the services of specialists in linguistics and English as a foreign language. You might also benefit from a global English style guide.

Cross-cultural customisation

Your website might be off-putting or even offensive in choice of colour, images or style. Perhaps it is so centric to your own country and culture that other nationalities feel excluded.

We have a network of local experts who can help you localise or customise your site for specific international audiences.
